BLOODCUM Reunion In The Works
September 22, 2004Late '80s Californian thrash outfit BLOODCUM, who are perhaps best known for their loose affiliation with SLAYER (the group's bassist was John Araya, younger brother of SLAYER frontman Tom Araya),are in the process of reforming with a view towards playing a few local shows and having "some fun" all over again, according to original guitarist George Hierro. "Apparently people have been asking about us at the Mosh Pit store in Whittier, Tom Araya's sister's metal shop," George told BLABBERMOUTH.NET. "She is looking into possibly remastering the old music and re-releasing all the old stuff from the three recordings we did."
With regards to the band's current formation, George said, "The new BLOODCUM [lineup] will have original drummer Jimi Sotelo, original guitarist George Hierro and possibly original guitarist Robert Tovar. [Also] joining the [group] will be Sean Araya, nephew of John Araya, who's in Canada with his new band, and Rick from local band PRIVATE PYLE doing the throat this time... We're currently looking for a venue to throw the first gig."
When asked in a recent interview with KNAC.com about the long-held belief that his younger brother "Joey" was handling the lead vocals in BLOODCUM, SLAYER guitarist Jeff Hanneman responded, "Yeah, actually he wasn’t my brother, he just happened to have blond hair and he kinda looked like me, so we just joked around. John is Tom's brother, so me and Joey would look at each other and say, 'Hey, you should be my brother!"
